Refugee Boulevard wins another major prize
October 7th, 2020
Refugee Boulevard: Making Montreal Home After the Holocaust (refugeeboulevard.ca) has won the U.S. Oral History Association Mason Multi-Media Award. The SSHRC-funded project is the work of Dawson faculty members Nancy Rebelo and Stacey Zembrycki along with Anna Sheftel from St. Paul University and Eszter Andor from the Montreal Holocaust Museum.
The project was created in close collaboration with Holocaust survivors who settled in Montreal in the post-WWII period.
Over the summer, the team created a virtual component to accompany the audio for those who can’t experience the tour in the neighborhood. Here are the links to the virtual tour:

"It is our hope that listening to survivors share their stories in the tour will open up conversations that help validate the roles immigrants play in our past and current communities," Nancy said.

Resistance and Resilience opens Oct. 8
October 7th, 2020
Following the success of Skénn:en: Peace and Decolonization (2017) and Queer and Peace (2018), Diana Rice (Programming Coordinator, Peace Centre) prophetically conceived of a project that would provide a space for those voices traditionally unheard and often ignored: Legacy and racialized immigrant communities. Once again collaborating with Rhonda Meier of the Warren G. Flowers Art Gallery, the work began in 2018 to create a platform for artists to display their experiences of racism and systemic oppression.

New Dawson Blues Band video release today!
June 16th, 2020
The Dawson Blues Band (the DBB) has grown to 18 members now! They have put together a new video to cheer us and raise support for the students of Dawson College who could use some help.
The name of the DBB song is: “With a lot of help from our friends” inspired by “With a Little Help From My Friends” by the Beatles (released in 1967) and by Joe Cocker (released in 1969) and “You've Got a Friend" by Carole King (released in 1971).
"I want to congratulate all the participants for the great work you accomplished for this project," said organizer and musician Vincent Maggiore (Business Administration).
Enjoy the DBB video, released today for you in the Read More link.
If you enjoy it and can help out, consider a donation to the Dawson College Foundation for the Dawson Financial Aid Program. The community and our friends have now donated more than $5,000. More news to come in August.
The DBB plans to be back in the Fall with more great music for us!
