Though you may be discouraged by that snow on the ground today, take heart: The Dawson Rooftop Gardens Project and Urban Seedling are here to help you usher in spring in style with a workshop and fundraiser for the gardens.

Interested in growing your own food but don’t know how? Worried that you might not have enough space? Come and learn about how to build your own garden AND support the Rooftop Gardens Project at Dawson College!

Led by Tereska Gesing from Urban Seedling, participants will learn how to plan, build, plant and maintain an organic vegetable garden in the city. We will look at seed starting, transplanting and pest control, as well as how to overcome obstacles particular to city growing such as space, sun, time and soil quality.

Included in the workshop are direct and hands-on examples of setting up a garden through a tour of Dawson’s rooftop gardens. Tereska will demonstrate the how and why of planting from Dawson’s first dig-in and three of its raised bed planters.

Participants also have the opportunity to purchase Urban Seedling’s specialized products, from seeds and seedlings to soil and pest control. See their garden centre HERE for more information about what you can buy.
