In the summer 2017, the program was piloted at Dawson College, Montreal, by Nature Canada through the Earthvalues Institute, a not-for-profit organization specializing in developing Nature as mentor educational programs.\u00a0 Naturehood became part of a series of activities that collectively make up Dawson\u2019s Living Campus initiative, where the campus grounds, infrastructure and building environment are used as a classroom. Dawson\u2019s Living Campus and sustainability department supported the establishment of the biodiversity gardens used for Naturehood in Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>Program objectives are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increase awareness of and respect for urban wildlife.<\/li>\n<li>Create an emotional and physical safe space for children to explore Nature.<\/li>\n<li>Authentic use of\u00a0&#8220;<strong><em>Nature as a Mentor&#8221; <\/em><\/strong>theme throughout, to increase literacy of all kinds (speaking, writing, listening, reflecting, arts, science).<\/li>\n<li>Integrate the concept of Sustainable Happiness (well-being for all, sustainably) in program development; to instill in children to do their best without the need to be the best in activities (character development).<\/li>\n<li>Balance feeling vs knowing and information vs wonder &amp; awe as integral components to Nature interpretation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<table class=\"l r b t top-label-table\" style=\"height: 74px\" border=\"0\" width=\"733\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\">\n<tbody>\n<tr valign=\"top\">\n<th width=\"20%\">\n<div><b>Week<\/b><\/div>\n<\/th>\n<th width=\"30%\">\n<div><b>Date<\/b><\/div>\n<\/th>\n<th width=\"50%\">\n<div><b>Course<\/b><\/div>\n<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>8 &#8211; 12 yrs. old<\/td>\n<td>July 6 \u2013 10, 2020<\/td>\n<td>Naturehood Camp<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The Camp runs weekly from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, and includes hands-on activities using Dawson\u2019s Biodiversity areas and gardens.<\/p>\n<p>On the last Friday of the camp, at 4:00 p.m. we hold a\u00a0special event, where children present their Naturehood projects.
