This professional program prepares students to work in a variety of settings with individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities experiencing the impact of social problems.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"what-do-social-service-workers-do\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>What do Social Service Workers do? <\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>Social Service workers fulfill a broad spectrum of positions helping individuals, groups, families and communities to find sustainable solutions to the social problems they face, through practices of relationship building, empowerment, advocacy and a focus on peoples\u2019 strengths.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"where-do-social-service-workers-work\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Where do Social Service Workers work?<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>In schools, group-homes, community centres, correctional facilities, youth centres, senior homes and services, Youth Protection, centres for people with disabilities, advocacy organizations and more.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"is-a-social-service-worker-the-same-as-social-worker\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Is a Social Service Worker the same as Social Worker?<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>No. To become a Social Worker anywhere in Canada, you must obtain a university level Bachelor of Social Work degree and belong to the Order of Social Workers. However, Social Service workers obtain a professional designation (Techniciens\/Techniciennes en Travail Social or TTS) that permits them to take on tasks very similar to social work, and sometimes under the supervision of a social worker.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"can-i-go-on-to-university-afterwards\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Can I go on to University afterwards?<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>Of course. Some universities may actually accredit some of your college education, while others recognize its value in their selection process. For further information you can contact our Academic Advisors.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"will-i-get-exposure-to-the-field-of-social-service-while-i-am-studying\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Will I get exposure to the field of social service while I am studying?<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>Yes. In fact, Fieldwork is important component of the program. In each year of the program, you will be matched with an agency where you will work under supervision to explore various contexts of practice, to work with different clienteles and to discover your strengths as a worker. Your Fieldwork is supported through your Field Seminar courses.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"what-are-my-chances-of-finding-employment-upon-graduation\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>What are my chances of finding employment upon graduation?<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>Very high. In fact, Services Canada shows Community and Social Service workers to be in high demand in Quebec where the job growth rate surpasses the average of most other professions. You must be interested in helping people to reach their potential and improve their lives.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"how-can-i-find-out-more-about-the-program\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>How can I find out more about the program?<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<ul>\n<li>You can call or email the program coordinator to ask questions about the Social Service Program.<\/li>\n<li>You can participate in our annual Student For a Day event where you will get a feel for the program and have the opportunity to ask questions.<\/li>\n<li>You can attend Dawson College\u2019s Open House event in the Fall where we can meet you and answer your questions.
