While being supportive of external research, the College recognizes that students have been entrusted to Dawson for their own personal education, and considers this its primary focus. All external research must align with priorities outlined in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www-chris.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/strategic-plan\/\">Dawson College Strategic Plan<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www-chris.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/73\/ResearchPlan_2015-181.pdf\">Strategic Research Plan<\/a>, and comply with Dawson and agency policies. You must apply for institutional approval as well as Dawson REB ethics review prior to starting research at Dawson. Please ensure that you begin the application process no later than 6 months in advance of your desired start date.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"what-documents-do-i-need-in-order-to-apply-for-institutional-evaluation-for-my-project\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>What documents do I need in order to apply for institutional evaluation for my project?<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>If you are already applying to Dawson&#8217;s REB, your application materials will be automatically submitted for institutional review. A copy of ethics certification from your home institution (if required)<br \/>\n2. A copy of the funded grant application, or a detailed description of your research project (if not included in the REB application) including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>name, affiliation and contact info of principal investigator and all collaborators<\/li>\n<li>detailed description of objectives, methodology and anticipated outcome of project<\/li>\n<li>description of the impact on Dawson and the potential benefits to Dawson community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"how-long-does-it-take-to-receive-institutional-approval\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>How long does it take to receive institutional approval?<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>We recommend you apply as early as possible prior to the date you wish to start collecting data. The Academic Dean\u2019s evaluation process may take up to 4 weeks, and the REB evaluation process can take several months if modifications are required. <a href=\"https:\/\/www-chris.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/research-ethics-board\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Please see the REB meeting schedule and deadlines here.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"my-project-does-not-involve-human-subjects-but-i-still-want-to-do-research-at-dawson-college-do-i-still-need-institutional-approval\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>My project does not involve human subjects, but I still want to do research at Dawson College. Do I still need institutional approval?<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>Yes. Please contact the <a href=\"https:\/\/www-chris.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/research\/contact-information\/\">Research Coordinator<\/a> to discuss your project. Potential benefit to the Dawson community, and match with Dawson priorities, including: Global Citizenship &amp; Social Innovation, and Science, Technology, &amp; the Environment.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"why-does-dawson-require-institutional-review-as-well-as-reb-review\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Why does Dawson require institutional review as well as REB review?<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<p>The REB&#8217;s role is to ensure research is conducted in compliance with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pre.ethics.gc.ca\/eng\/index\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans<\/a> and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www-chris.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/wp-content\/external-includes\/spdocs\/documents\/dawson-college-human-research-ethics-policy-apr-2010-with-oct-2014.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dawson College Policy on the Ethical Conduct of Research Involving Humans<\/a>.
