{"id":175,"date":"2019-02-21T12:06:39","date_gmt":"2019-02-21T17:06:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www-chris.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/diagnostic-imaging\/?page_id=175"},"modified":"2021-08-04T17:24:17","modified_gmt":"2021-08-04T21:24:17","slug":"program-goals","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www-chris.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/diagnostic-imaging\/program-goals\/","title":{"rendered":"Program Goals"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>The program ensures that the students are able to:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>effectively use\u00a0 digital medical imaging equipment related to the procedures outlined in the OTIMROEPMQ\/CAMRT competency profiles;<\/li>\n<li>explain and apply in the clinical environment the theory behind all the procedures outlined in the OTIMROEPMQ\/CAMRT competency profiles;<\/li>\n<li>analyze the patient\u2019s examination prescription and prepare the appropriate radiographic equipment, technical factors\/parameters and accessory devices for the requested procedure;<\/li>\n<li>carry out all basic radiographic examinations outlined in the CAMRT competency profile and the \u201cOTIMROEPMQ Standards of Practice\u201d, unaided, with optimum diagnostic quality and minimum discomfort to the patient;<\/li>\n<li>identify and perform supplemental positions\/projections for routine and specialized radiological examinations\/procedures;<\/li>\n<li>analyze and perform processing techniques;<\/li>\n<li>assess the radiographic images produced;<\/li>\n<li>acquire the technical ability to work accurately and effectively, especially under pressure;<\/li>\n<li>adapt quickly to new technologies and modify examinations to various clinical situations, patient needs\/conditions, and pathological considerations;<\/li>\n<li>work efficiently as a member of a health care team;<\/li>\n<li>evaluate urgent and emergency situations and take appropriate actions;<\/li>\n<li>assist the radiologist in carrying out radiological procedures;<\/li>\n<li>perform and evaluate quality control testing of x-ray generators, processors and accessory equipment;<\/li>\n<li>describe the different laws which govern the technologist in Radiology;<\/li>\n<li>apply the CAMRT and OTIMROEPMQ Codes of Ethics;<\/li>\n<li>demonstrate a professional attitude toward others and be responsible for one\u2019s own training;<\/li>\n<li>analyze and evaluate the biological effects of radiation that may result from ionizing radiation;<\/li>\n<li>calculate skin dose and determine diagnostic reference levels (DRL);<\/li>\n<li>ensure maximum radiation protection to him\/herself, the patient, the hospital staff and the general public by applying the Provincial and Federal Radiation Safety Codes;<\/li>\n<li>evaluate and perform patient care procedures applicable before, during and after each examination;<\/li>\n<li>perform all related departmental duties expected of a qualified technologist;<\/li>\n<li>maintain a professional appearance and be conscientious regarding attendance and punctuality;<\/li>\n<li>meet the program\u2019s requirements for professional conduct;<\/li>\n<li>communicate effectively and ethically with patients, peers, supervisors, and other members of the health care team;<\/li>\n<li>prepare to write the OTIMROEPMQ certification examination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Specific to CT, and MRI<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>describe the physical phenomena and components of each modality;<\/li>\n<li>discuss the biological effects of each modality;<\/li>\n<li>evaluate the factors affecting the quality of the digital images;<\/li>\n<li>describe and identify on images the normal and abnormal anatomical and physiological features of a structure in cross-section;<\/li>\n<li>identify the type, amount and route of administration of contrast media used for each modality.<\/li>\n<li>perform common routine examinations with their appropriate protocol<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Specific to CT only<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Calculate CT doses and evaluate their radiobiological risks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The program ensures that the students are able to: effectively use\u00a0 digital medical imaging equipment related to the procedures outlined in the OTIMROEPMQ\/CAMRT competency profiles;
