{"id":8,"date":"2014-04-15T15:47:35","date_gmt":"2014-04-15T19:47:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www-chris.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/biomedical-laboratory-technology\/?page_id=8"},"modified":"2021-08-04T17:24:09","modified_gmt":"2021-08-04T21:24:09","slug":"admissions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www-chris.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/biomedical-laboratory-technology\/admissions\/","title":{"rendered":"Admission Requirements"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Diploma of Secondary Studies (DES), including:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Secondary V Language of Instruction<\/li>\n<li>Secondary V Second Language<\/li>\n<li>Secondary IV Science<\/li>\n<li>Secondary IV Mathematics<\/li>\n<li>Secondary IV History<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>or academic background judged equivalent to the DES.<\/p>\n<p>(Students with a DES missing any of the above subjects may be admitted, space permitting, but may be required to complete remedial courses.)<\/p>\n<h3>Specific ministerial admission requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Sec IV Mathematics &#8211; Technical and Scientific option or Sec IV Mathematics &#8211; Science option 564-406\/426 or 565-406\/426 or Sec V Mathematics &#8211; Cultural Social and Technical option 563-504<\/li>\n<li>Sec V Physics<\/li>\n<li>Sec V Chemistry<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Additional Admission Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>The program has put together a list of <a href=\"https:\/\/www-chris.dawsoncollege.qc.ca\/biomedical-laboratory-technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/Biomed-recommendations-for-students.pdf\">Recommendations for applicants<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An interview is required to assess the candidate&#8217;s readiness to pursue studies in Biomedical Laboratory Technology.<\/li>\n<li>Candidates must be eligible to take College English 603-101 (Testing may be required)<\/li>\n<li>Candidates must be eligible to take Basic French 602-100 (Testing may be required)<\/li>\n<li>Candidates who have completed the pre-requisite courses within the last 5 years will be given preference for the interview phase of the admission process. If you have not taken any Science or Math courses (secondary or post-secondary level) in the last 5 years, or if your education was completed outside of Canada, we strongly recommend that you take refresher courses through Continuing Education or you may be asked to take pre-admission tests to ensure that you have adequate pre-requisite knowledge.<\/li>\n<li>Candidates who were not selected for admission and choose to reapply must demonstrate some improvement in order to be considered for another interview. After three unsuccessful attempts, candidates will be considered for an interview only after all other applications have been considered and space remains available in the program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to regular student fees, student membership in the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and l&#8217;Ordre professionnel des technologistes m\u00e9dicaux du Qu\u00e9bec (OPTMQ) is approximately $200 for both. The fee to write the National General Certification exam of the CSMLS upon completion of the program is $955 as of June 2021.<\/p>\n<h4>Information about the interview:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Candidates will be notified by email of the details of the interview process.<\/li>\n<li>Candidates may be asked to complete a pre-interview written exercise, which will be reviewed at the time of the interview and may contribute to the overall assessment of the candidate. An information sheet will be emailed to candidates who have been selected for an interview.<\/li>\n<li>Candidates should inform themselves about the profession and be prepared to show that they possess the skills, personal attributes and abilities to succeed in the program and as medical technologists.<\/li>\n<li>A letter of intent is very beneficial.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Other considerations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students who do not have a clear criminal record check at the beginning of the clinical component of the Program will not be able to complete the clinical component and will therefore not be able to graduate.<\/li>\n<li>The Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services and the Department of Public Health have determined that: \u201call students within career programs involving clinical fieldwork, where there is a risk of exposure to blood or bodily fluids need to be properly immunized against certain infectious diseases for their own protection as well as that of their clients\u201d.
