Please contact the Peer Tutoring Coordinator with any questions.<\/p>\n\n        <style>\n\n        <\/style>\n\n\t\t<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"new-tutors\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>New Tutors<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\nBefore tutoring for the first time, tutors must take part in a tutor training workshop and submit all required forms.<\/p>\n<h4>Forms:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Tutor Application Form<\/li>\n<li>Tutor Recommendation Form<\/li>\n<li>Electronic copy of Direct Deposit information (the document from your bank&#8217;s web site or a void check)<\/li>\n<li>Electronic copy of Social Insurance Number form<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Videos:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Peer Tutor Training (Fall 2020 version coming soon)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"returning-tutors\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Returning Tutors<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\nReturning tutors must be a full-time student and continue to be in good standing to be eligible to tutor.<br \/>\nSubmit the following forms to the Academic Skills Centre:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tutor Application Form (teacher&#8217;s recommendation not required)<\/li>\n<li>Direct Deposit information (<em>only if different than last semester)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"other-forms\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Other Forms<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<ul>\n<li>PET Recommendation Form (not required if you are a returning PET)<\/li>\n<li>Language Tutor Recommendation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"the-tutoring-session\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>The Tutoring Session<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\">\n<ul>\n<li><b>Listen closely to work out the real problem<br \/>\n<\/b>Check to see if the learner has prepared with some time and effort and attempted the assignments.<\/li>\n<li><b>Assess the situation<br \/>\n<\/b>Think in terms of realistic objectives;develop a \u201ccontract\u201d of agreed upon learning outcomes and communications expectations (availability, one\/several sessions;means of communication (face-to-face, e-mail, telephone, etc.).<\/li>\n<li><b>Use questions to enhance problem solving<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Demonstrate or model similar processes<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Don\u2019t be afraid to reveal that you don\u2019t know something<br \/>\n<\/b>You can refer the learner to more sources, including the teacher.<br \/>\nYou can take the opportunity to learn\/problem-solve, and bring back answers,<br \/>\nand demonstrate that you are in a learning process as well.<\/li>\n<li><b>Give positive feedback, use encouraging vocabulary<br \/>\n<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Find success, and reinforce effort, in even minor accomplishment<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Summarize and review<br \/>\n<\/b><\/li>\n<li><strong>Enable follow up<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><b>Celebrate accomplishment!<\/b><\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep records for future reference<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"faq-content\"><div class=\"dc_faq\" id=\"tutor-policies\"><div class=\"dc_faq-title\"><button>Tutor Policies<\/button><\/div><div class=\"dc_faq-body\"><\/li>\n<li>Each tutee is allowed up to two <strong>(2)<\/strong> hours of tutoring per week. Tutees may ask for tutors for up to two subjects (excluding English).<\/li>\n<li>Tutoring sessions can last no longer than <strong>one (1)<\/strong> hour; consult the Peer Tutoring Coordinator if you have any questions.<\/li>\n<li>There is an obligation to keep appointments. If either party does not show up, try to reschedule. A second \u201cno-show\u201d (tutor or tutee) should be reported to the Academic Skills Centre.<\/li>\n<li>Tutors are not allowed to do homework or assignments or <strong>to give out their own class or lab notes<\/strong>. Let the Academic Skills Centre know if there is a problem in this area.<\/li>\n<li>Tutees should keep in touch with their class teachers for extra help.<\/li>\n<li>The Academic Skills Centre reserves the right to spot-check tutorials and conducts an on-going evaluation of the program.<\/li>\n<li>Tutoring must be scheduled using the <a href=\"http:\/\/mywco.com\/dawson\">WCOnline<\/a> system;
